Municipalities: Two cities and and two municipalities have banned the use of GMOs in public provisions.

In Finland so far the councils of two cities - Espoo and Hyvinkää - and two municipalities - Loppi and Pernaja - (all in the Uusimaa region, in the southern part of Finland) have banned the use of GMOs in public provisions (schools, day cares, nursing homes etc.)

The Union of Organic Farmers in Finland, the Union of Organic Forestry in Finland, the Biodynamic association in Finland, Friends of the Earth Finland and the People's Biosafety Association in Finland have launched a GMO-free Finland campaign (GMO vapaa Suomi) with the focus on to initiate local groups activity and to steer the issue into mainstream national politics.
