GMO-free europe

The Association of Organic Farmers in Cyprus have started a campaign for the following petition, which is being supporter by a large number of Organisations, Citizens Movements and other bodies.

We call upon the President of the Republic, the Government, the House of Representatives and the Cypriot members of the European Parliament to take into account the overwhelming will of the people of Cyprus and to ensure that the legal framework properly reflects the Principles of Democracy, Sovereignty and of Prevention-Precaution as incorporated in the International Cartagena Protocol On Biosafety and to bar the importation, trading and cultivation of GMOs in Cyprus, either for commercial or for experimental/research purposes, so as to protect from the dangers associated with GMOs:

• the health of the people
• organic farming and the other cultivations
• bee-keeping
• wild nature's wealth and biodiversity
• tourism
• the agricultural economy and generally the island's economy.
